Nicola L. at Kunsthalle Wien
Kunsthalle Wien is hosting the first-ever European retrospective of French artist Nicola L. (1932–2018), spanning her sculptures, performances, paintings, collages, and films. Running from June 27 to September 14, 2025, it marks the very first monographic survey of her work in Austria, organized in collaboration with Camden Art Centre, Frac Bretagne, and Museion.
Artsy Gallery Report 2025
The newly released “Artsy Gallery Report 2025” evaluates 40 Artsy partner galleries, categorized by scale: large, mid-sized, small, and secondary-market. This year’s report places particular emphasis on smaller galleries — vital to the art ecosystem, increasingly attractive to collectors due to accessible pricing and emerging artist representation.
Documenta 2027 — First All-Female Curatorial Team
For the first time since its inception in 1955, documenta will be led entirely by women. Artistic director Naomi Beckwith has assembled a curator team — Carla Acevedo‑Yates, Romi Crawford, Mayra A. Rodríguez Castro, and Xiaoyu Weng — to lead the 2027 edition (June 12–September 19). Beckwith herself is both the first Black artistic director and only the second woman ever in this role, heralding a new era of inclusive, reflective, and multifaceted curatorial practice.
Unifying Thread
Though these narratives span different aspects of the art world — a long-overlooked artist, evolving gallery dynamics, and historic institutional leadership — they collectively point toward a common trajectory: art history and institutions are increasingly diverse, inclusive, and introspective. Nicola L. brings back a silenced voice; the Artsy report highlights the rise of smaller galleries; and documenta finally embraces feminist leadership. Together, they reflect the shifting landscape of contemporary art.
